Charlie or not, he does have a point. In order for MS to continue its profitability cycle, they have chosen this course, and although the description is only “basically” accurate, it's close enough to the truth to start corporate entities to begin evaluating alternative approaches/OS’s.

Most likely, MS will cave once again to the general public and continue providing “free: critical fixes to Window 7 for years to come, but that is no guarantee. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Extended support means free security patches, and they have currently committed extended support until 2020. So the article is flat out wrong.
