modern people should not read too much into such images
their opinions about them may be more their own imginations than anything else

Pagan tribes had all sorts of weird piercings and tatoos all through history (btw these are symptoms of a devolving culture). They would look weird enough in a drawing but no spacemen.

One can posit that it's more a testament to the amazing power of man's imagination than the evidence of extraterrestrial visitors.
