Lots of weird geological stuff happens in that part of the world.
Til something better comes along, I'm going to go with that explanation of what it is.

The striations coming from the bottom running over the sides and onto the surface all in a line seem really weird.

From that pic I would have to wonder if a meteor would cut such smooth walls on the sides of the hole.

Look at the vertical striations on the inner wall...
Reminds me, for some reason, of Katie Currack.

Google earth the area and look at sat photos. The area is more pock marked than the surface of the moon. Sink holes everywhere, most filled with water.
Next thing you know, someone will discover there is water and lots of it in the Pacific ocean.

It looks like it has been bored out. I did a lot of post-holes and it has a similar appearance. Look at the “dirt” around to edges of the hole.

It must be global warming.

Looks more like a blow hole than a sink hole to me. Notice the hill shape around the edge.

This thing has Climate Change wrote all over it and I didn’t change my light bulbs. It must be my fault.

Everyone has a right to be very, very nervous. Now me, I’m just going to go ahead with my new movie development that has been in the works for nearly 18 months:
“DONUT EARTH”
Don’t miss it. Scheduled release - Summer 2015.
Synopsis: The earth opens up and the hole just gets bigger and bigger working it’s way to China. What to do. What to do. Enter SuperBama the 8 time President of the United Nations States who zooms to the rescue.

That's water running down inside of it, add the natural chemicals to the moisture
and it's probably eating the side or melting it.
You can see the top of the hole where the water is running into it, separating,
then making smaller streams.
Or, aliens have invaded and they're going to appear in our toilets all at once.
We'll need "Giorgio Tsoukalos's" opinion on this before we can really know for sure.

Sequoia tree post holes, I guess.

Those look kind of like machine-made, regularly-spaced, vertical striations to me but it could also be a giant worm - or aliens...or Howard Stern’s butt wind.
