He apparently missed all the media announcements, flyers at every door and notices posted on every hydro pole in the neighbourhood. I actually had fun with him online; he removed the post as soon as he realized what he said but the Ottawa Citizen had already captured a screenshot for posterity.
Maybe he’s like me and spends a lot of time out of town, and/or leaves home early in the morning, gets home late at night, and who’s primary way of reading news is checking out Free Republic, Brieibart, and Drudge Report....
Being out of touch as to neighborhood events isn’t a “fail”, in my opinion.... I’m sure I do it all the time!

Sure, you get the spit up the bottom, and (I geese) up out through the neck) butt how do yo cook the fat, wide, heavy bottom of the swan even while not burning the skinny little long neck?

I read it the same way as you. The tenor of the post is like: “oh thank goodness this wasn’t a terrorist attack!”, which it wasn’t. Ergo, no “fail”.
Well, at least it was a quick kill, and it didn't suffer much. It would have been much worse to be attacked and eaten by a velociraptor or T-Rex.
