Some folks have a problem understanding the plain language of the Bible. Forgiveness is only required if repentance is truly made and forgiveness sincerely asked for.

These thugs have done neither.

You are correct but “love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you” means that it is really up to the individual to decide what love to them means. Forgiveness can be just as much for the victim as the perps and it prevent the victim them from being overtaken by bitterness and anger. If while we were yet sinners Christ died for us then certainly she is following that example if she chooses forgiveness above hate. As for those two they better get on their knees because her forgiveness will not buy them the forgiveness they really need!
