Conservative Rock Music? - Vanity

Posted on 07/12/2014 3:15:18 PM PDT by QuisCustodiet1776

As a branch of the thread that was just posted about modern music - anyone have any suggestions for conservative rock bands? Why are there so few?

I have run across one: Tor Nemo

Can be found on CDBaby. Any others?

The Kinks. Who else has used “conservatively” in a song lyric?

Lots of RUSH songs are libertarian/conservative (hence my screen name). But it seems later on it has become more liberal. Neil Peart’s book and blog writings I’ll read, until he bash’s some conservative person or idea. He can get pretty liberal, but they keep it out of the songs for the most part.

Dont know but I do know Avenged Sevenfold is outwardly conservative. I believe the lead singer of Godsmack is as well.

What about the “Devil’s Interval”?

The tritone is big in Black Sabbath’s work. I like the old stuff.

Yeah, I know Peart leans to the left personally, but it’s hard to bash perhaps the greatest drummer since Buddy Rich...

Don’t forget The Temptations “Ball of Confusion” and the Eagles “Get Over It”

Why are there so few?

Conservative values tend toward personal responsibility, hard work, patriotism, loyalty self sacrifice...basically adult behavior. Rock music's message (when there is one)is basically rebellion against all of these (while Country music embraces them). Politically it's liberal vs. conservative philosophies.

However, Rock has been around since the 1950s. A newer generation may rebel against status quo liberal philosophy and see that reflected in their new Rock.

Just generalizations. Do not believe popular music has the impact it did a generation ago. And there is so much great Rock from so many years that one should just enjoy listening to what he likes.

In 2006, National Review compiled what was called the Fifty Greatest Conservative Rock Songs...

a pretty good list, even if some of the singers were libs.

I don’t bash him - I’ll just stop reading, or skip parts of his blogs. But he does a nice job in his blogs about traveling and relating it to life, etc. I really enjoy them. Not only is he an okay drummer, he’s an okay writer as well!

Even “Imagine” is somewhat of a lampoon of lefty ideas.

No possessions, John? Not even a little recording studio or some piles of vinyl discs? Did you “share” the single with the world, or did it cost a few bucks per person? I guess your own imagination is lacking.

I assumed that his response would have been that it only works if we all do it at the same time. This of course requires what would amount to either a voluntary monastic order, or enforced totalitarianism regardless of what it is called, to cull those who won’t imagine.

My project/band, 10 Pound Test. Here are links to my vids on You Tube:

Liberal Girl by 10 Pound Test

No Way Jose (No Se Puede!) by 10 Pound Test

53% by 10 Pound Test

Hooks and Chains by 10 Pound Test

Old Glory (a song for Michael) by 10 Pound Test

Deergoggles by 10 Pound Test

"Liberal Girl" is on CD Baby...I'm hoping to use proceeds from sales to fund more trips to the studio, but that hasn't panned out yet. The rest are just home recordings.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Wasn’t Rush (or at least Neil Peart) really into Ayn Rand? Perhaps that was way back (i.e. Anthem, Free Will, 2112, etc). And yeah, it’s kind of hard to diss them as good as they are.
