Thanks for the reminder on Doris Day.
Just finished watching “Bird on a Wire” on cable movies. Romantic, comedy, action with Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn. Nice enough movie. Had been long enough ago when I last watched it that I forgot most of it!
My favs are ‘Move Over Darling’, (a ‘remake’ of the Marilyn Monroe-Dean Martin film that was cancelled due to her death) and ‘That Touch of Mink’ with Cary Grant.
Most forget what a good dramatic actress she was.
See ‘Midnight Lace’ with Rex Harrison.
To set her mood in a scene from ‘Midnight Lace’, she relived scenes in her mind from her first marriage to an abusive husband where he kicked her in the stomach while she was expecting and beat her until she was almost died.
Her tears were real. She became so shaken that they had to postpone production for several days.
She was one of the best criers in the business- next to Margaret O’Brien.
She could do it all. She is a true American treasure- the likes of which we will never see again.
