Abortion doctors fear successor shortage
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | By Dana Ferguson

Abortion physician Dennis Christensen wants to retire. But he can't, the 71-year-old says, because no one wants to take over his Milwaukee clinic, a condition he set for himself for retirement.

Christensen and his professional partner, Bernard Smith, both of whom have performed abortions for more than four decades, hope they can hand over the reins of the Affiliated Medical Center to younger physicians, but so far no one has come forward.

An ongoing lawsuit over a new state requirement for doctors who perform abortions could leave that process more rigorous and less likely to happen.

"I have always felt that this is a worthwhile endeavor and a necessary one," Christensen said. "And there aren't too many people who will do it."

Abortion opponents disagree. Supporters of the recent state law think doctors like Christensen should be held to a higher standard if they want to work with patients.

And with a federal judge considering whether the state can require hospital admitting privileges of doctors who provide abortions, Affiliated may soon have to close its doors.

Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life, said the admitting privileges requirement did not aim to restrict access to abortion, but to promote the safety of the procedures.

"The goal always was and continues to be to protect the care of women," Lyons said. "It's important that the care before, during and after the procedure be from one provider."

But Gretchen Borchelt, a director of health policy at the National Women's Law Center, said the requirements "are not about enhancing women's safety or protecting women's health. They're about shutting down abortion clinics."

""So I see it as a calling, I guess," Christensen said. "But I've been called, I've served and now I'd like to call someone else.""

He might want to consider hearing God's calling before he hears Gabrielle's.

Not enough people who want a career murdering babies? That’s a surprise.

That's really odd, because you can usually find people who want to undertake worthwhile endeavors, even if the pay is little or nothing. And here's a very lucrative occupation that nobody wants.

Why, it's almost as if the majority recognizes that killing babies is evil!

I am suppose to feel the pain of this abortion doctor being unable to retire? Perhaps I might if they felt the pain of the aborted or the pains of Hell awaiting. Severe prayers for Repentance are in order here.

Abortionists live unhappy lives. Med school students largely elect not to live with the many discomforts, unless they are at the bottom of the class with no options.

Now if old collectivists would also grow old and die off...

When you're on a date with a woman, even a liberal woman, and she asks you what you do for a living, who really wants to say "I'm an abortionist"?

Would even a liberal feminist mom gush to her friends about "my son, the abortionist"?

Doctors that perform abortions fall into two categories.

1. True believer psychopaths, on par with Josef Mengele

2. Broken physicians (drug addicts, those unable to board certify in anything, have legal issues that make them pariahs to regular employment)

The Left has for years pushed to force doctors to perform abortions as a requirement to getting licensed.

Yep. These guys never seem to have trouble recruiting ...

"My son, the Navy SEAL" sounds a whole lot better than "My son, the abortionist".

"The Guttmacher Institute, a group that researches and advocates for abortion rights, reports that 84% of clinics experienced at least one form of harassment in 2011. Fifty-three percent of clinics were picketed 20 times or more over the course of a year."

Now there's a cause for concern: it looks like 16% of the clinics have been left to operate untouched, with no one to try to turn souls away from the path of death.

We've got to do better.

And as for this doctor? May God save this wretch. I hope for him what I would hope for myself, in his condition: a heart-wrenching conversion, and the rest of his life in penitential tears.

It might be interesting to ask a man who is pro-abortion if he would consider training to be an abortionist, given the great need (and high pay). And if not, why not?

After all, if there is a “right” to abortion, then someone has a duty to perform abortions ... and why not you? (Rhetorical you, not you-you.)
