It’s the ‘Rainbow Family’. We’ve had dealings with them up here in the Pacific Northwest for some time.

Based on pictures I’ve seen and reports from people who have dealt with them, many of these people are so ‘fugly’ and smelly that bugs are the LEAST of their worries.

Not to mention that they have a well-known and documented reputation for utterly trashing wherever they set up camp.

Apparently these Rainbow people show up in NW PA every few summers... and stay at the Hearts Content wilderness area, where a lot of families have camps. One of the local stories I have heard includes going to the local supermarket and when the vegetable misters turn on they use it to wash their hair.

Yes, I have seen them close to one of my favorite camping areas in the Coast Range some years ago, they were clearing out of wherever they had been, using the campground entrance as sort of a waypoint while we were coming in, staging some of their trucks so they could travel together I guess.

I talked to a couple of them, they were mostly incoherent (I wonder why), but I got from them something like "don't worry, we are just waiting for one more guy and then we're leaving".

Good enough for me, we went in and started setting up and when we came back out by the road to check they were gone.

A better experience, I think, than trying to stay at that same campground during the week of the Oregon Country Fair!
