Haters could be characterised as less active because they do fewer things as people with a positive attitude.
But they could also be characterised as more focused because they spend more time on the small number of tasks.
The present results demonstrate that patterns of general action may occur for reasons other than the desire to be active versus inactive, the researchers wrote.
Indeed, some people may be more active than others not because they want to be active per se, but because they identify a large number of specific behaviours in which they want to engage.
The findings may have implications for understanding the development of skills and expertise.
For example, likers may adopt a jack-of-all-trades approach to life, investing small amounts of time in a wide variety of activities. This means they never have expertise in one activity.
In contrast, when haters find an activity they actually like, they may invest a larger amount of time in that task, allowing them to develop a higher level of skills.

maybe we’re grumpy because we are carrying the happy slackers on our backs
Fewer Facebook friends - less time chatting...
My boss is very upset because he thinks the operation will run into serious trouble without me. I said, "Funny how that works."
Despite the crappy mess that the world is in, I've read the end of "The Book" and it's not over until we win.
Is it Google that is supposed to have fun times, all this stuff for people to do that isn’t work, want everyone to have squirt-gun fights in the cubicle offices once a day? It’s one of those type companies. I couldn’t believe it. I like fun but I would be annoyed after a while. Especially if I was required to get wet every day. Never mind my chronic issues which means half the time I just don’t feel that well.
Unless, of course, they don’t actually DO much work in which case maybe I would not feel pressure to get things done! LOL
Bingo!
LOL! TRUE!!
I too, at least I’m basically happy but also cynical. My dad apparently was quite the growler at work, but you’d never know that at home. Maybe they need a category for us middling people, who achieve the balance.
They are grumpy because they are the ones doing the work while the happy bunch socializes. Been there, done that.
OMG! How true this is.
yeah no joke, I don’t have time to do anything but work and I am sure not happy with the insanity that surrounds me
Everybody else gets to be cool while you do all the work
I used to work as a TV producer under a Fed Gov contract; the bureaucratic Manager was a female “Michael Scott” (but without the lovability). It was all about parties, lunches, pontificating meetings, faux awards and such because her and her gov-bot staff had nothing better to do and no accountability. I worked with a dark cloud over my head because I knew that I was the only ‘grown up’ in the unit. When $hit hit the fan, she went into “cya mode” but I made sure to document everything. This was 10 years ago and I still have STACKS of her ridiculous emails in my home office as a keep sake to ‘government efficiency’. (Too bad no one did the same with Lois Lerner’s emails...)
We’re grumpy because we’re having to do all the work while the useless gadflies goof off.
Yup, I have a good friend I worked worked with, a real people person. Always chatting up clients and being friendly. Invariably a previous job would come up for discussion and he would ask me why I didn't know about persons X,Y,Z and I always responded that it was because I was actually working on the job.
Introversion and “not happy go lucky” are now seen as mental disorders.
