I now live near Indianapolis and will be planning a Hip Replacement in the near future. My left hip joint is painful with bone to bone.

WOW! I want to have my next one done where you got yours done! :-) That’s really an amazing time for recovery, and certainly not typical.
Sorry it took a while to get back to you. Yes, I had the x-rays at Mayo Clinic (as well as my chiropractor), and was seen by a family med physician, filling in for my regular family med physician. I did receive a call back from the family med nurse who said the x-rays indicated degenerative arthritis in my left hip. But the family med doctor did not really have too much to say or offer in regard to the sciatic nerve problem. I actually need to see the x-ray consultant on June 25, in order to talk about the x-ray and treatment of my hip, and I will ask much more pointedly about the painful throbbing of my left leg from the sciatic nerve.
Thank you much! If I need a hip replacement (which I hope to clarify with the Mayo Clinic x-ray consultant on June 25), I will certainly go with Mayo Clinic to do the surgery, as they are still my primary doctor & health care.

Thanks so much for your reply. I noticed you live in an area where you have a superb medical facility so I know you will have the best of care.
Since your medical needs have been addressed by some great advice here let me just offer a few little things you may want to consider when you return home. As suggested before get a 2-3” firm foam cushion for a chair. A long handle “grabber” will come in handy if you drop something. I’m sure they will give you a pamphlet of some sort at the hospital of further helpful hints.
One of the most important thing for me was getting a raised toilet seat with the handles on the side. If you are fortunate enough to already have a toilet that is taller than normal that should be fine. Another very necessary item at least for many is getting a supply of moistened x-large sanitary wipes for those occasions when regular toilet paper just isn’t enough. They’ll probably give you some in the hospital, but you’ll want more when you come home.
This was one of the easiest operations I’ve ever had. Just be patient and do what the doctors and therapists tell you and you should be fine. Please keep us posted.

I have chosen Dr. Lindsey Rolston, Henry County Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Clinic in New Castle,Indiana. I will have a Total Left Hip Replacement using the Anterior (Front) Procedure using a Zimmer Non-Metal Socket and Metal Ball.
We have checked out the Doctor, Hospital and Device and fine excellent results.
Dr. Rolston is 51 years old and has been doing Total Hip Replacements for 18 years. Performs approximately 250 per year. Dr. Rolston is the Inventor of the Journey-Deuce Partial (Two Section) Knee Replacement Device.
My surgery will be done on September 30, 2014.
