I love Inspector Lewis as well. Morse would be proud!

My wife and I just completed watching all 7 seasons of The Murdoch Mysteries. Though not British, it is Canadian and based in Toronto at the end of the 1800s and early 1900s.

Good writing, good characters and quite wholesome. It was a different time with people dressing and showing respect for others. Refreshing.

One note about the series is that they bring in contemporary historical figures such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Churchhill, Tom Edison etc. Adds a lot of historic context to the series.

Watched the first six seasons on Amazon and the most recent one on Watch-Series-Online, a great site for free viewing of just about anything on TV.

Really enjoy Downton, tho this last season stumbled a bit for me. We have also enjoyed Selfridge. Sherlock has been awesome for the most part.
We have also enjoyed The Paradise.

One other one we liked was Land Girls about women from the cities sent to work the farms during WW2.

Will have to try Bletchley....

I saw one episode of Bletchley, liked it, but it’s on too late to catch it on a regular basis. Perhaps I’ll rent a season and watch at leisure when I’m actually awake.

Downton Abbey is magnificent. Looking forward to the next season, and the next.

Doc Martin is fun.

I also enjoyed the David Attenborough “Life” series — nature topics. The last one, Life in Cold Blood, was about reptiles and amphibians. Who knew snakes were so adorable? It’s on may Amazon wish list if anyone was thinking of sending me a gift. Hmm?

Murdock Mysteries sounds very interesting..will have to check this out. This is is the kind of programming I would enjoy.

Thanx for the heads up on Watch-Series-Online. My budget only allows for the Comcast package I can afford, so I'll check this link out.

I enjoy them all. But I have older tastes something a bit more civilized than what passes for modern US television

Haven’t seen that one but we love “Call the Midwife.”

DH says it’s “Women’s Television” and leaves the room until we women vacate the TV so he can watch MMA, LOL.

My wife and I enjoyed all three. Also enjoyed “Island at War”, though it was a little too soapy for me.

Also recommend “Doc Martin”.

Seems to be a general rule-of-thumb, if there are American and British versions of a show, the British one will be ten times better.

So true. Anyone who has ever seen the Masterpiece version of "Traffic" (I think it's spelled "Traffik") knows this to be true.

The American version, which won best picture at the Academy Awards is a pale comparison to the original British version.

Highly recommend the British version.

It may be “women’s television”, but I watch it anyway. The women in the show are for the most part very nice to look at. :)

Doc Martin is very good. I liked the two stand alones, Doc Martin and Doc Martin and the Clooey (or something like that). I’ve only seen seasons 3-6 though. Waiting for the first 2 and the Christmas special.
Death in Paradise is fun as well.

Michael Kitchen is nothing short of superb .. Foyle's War is one of the very best bits of TV evah !

If I'd paid money to see an episode in a theatre, billed as a movie, it would've seemed a well-spent ticket.

(not that i've been to a theatre in about 20yrs .. lol :)

Saw season 1 of Blechely, quite enjoyed it. Haven watched season 2 yet.

The wife liked “Call the Midwife”, I wasn’t interested in it.

Some very good Brit TV I have seen:

The Good Cop (4 part mini series VG)
New Tricks (10 seasons all top rate - start at the beginning! Amanda Redman is outstanding)
State of Play (2003 mini series EXCELLENT, the Russell Crowe movie was a remake of this)
Page Eight (2011 Super espionage piece - Bill Nighy is top rate) available on Netflix
Turks and Caicos (sequel to Page 8, Again Bill Nighy is good)
The Ice Cream Girls (2013 mini series - VG character study about wrongly imprisoned girl)
House of Cards (1990, basis for Netflix series) available on Netflix
Injustice (2011- 5 part miniseries, VG)
Yes, Minister (from the 70s. Wonderful political satire)

Most of this probably won’t be easy to get (unless you know how to use newsgroups), but worth watching if you can get them.

Yep, Bletchley Circle is very good. Some of the other programs we watch/have watched are Inspector Lewis and the prequel Endeavor; Doc Martin, Scott and Bailey, Selfrige, Call the Midwife, Foyle’s War, Masterpiece Mystery, Wallender, MI5, and of course Sharpe! Pretty darn good viewing.
