Barcelona are close to submitting their final terms in the ongoing contract renewal of four-time Ballon d’Or winner, Leo Messi to his management company, Messi Management, but the salary offered is believed to be well below what the player and his father, Jorge Messi, believe the player is worth at this stage of his career.

Messi is wanting a contract that would make the latest MLB guaranteed contracts seem like a minor event. I don’t think he’ll get it, because even with FC Barcelona’s very strong financial situation the team does not want to set a bad precedent with a contract that will affect the team negatively for a decade or more.
