The Hobbit 3 is rumored to undergo a name change before the actual release date.
The film was originally supposed to be called The Hobbit: There and Back Again but now might be changed to The Hobbit: Into the Fire.
The news originated from the well-known Lord of the Rings fan-site called TheOneRing.net. The site claims a reliable source revealed that New Line has registered the new title. New Line also registered the unused The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies a few years ago, but that name was never used.

I took the gkids to see the first two, can’t wait to see the final one. I hardly ever go to the movies but the hobbit looks good on the big screen.
Long movies should have long names ,LOL
That makes the most sense.
The Hobbit: The part that could have been attached to the other two films and cut down to 2 hours, and made more sense.
“Harry Potter and the Other Compound Subject”
“Indian Jones and Quest for a Better Medicare Supplement”
Much better name.
I agree. The battle of five armies works with that part of the story.
I don’t see how it’s even a question. “Into the fire”?? Well, OK... But not great.

Why couldn’t the Hobbit just be ONE film?
I don’t think the final name will be “Into the Fire.” It just doesn’t work on a number of levels.
Big money, but the ridiculous inventions to stretch the story out made me fall asleep for the first time ever during a LoTR movie - about two hours into the Desolation of Smaug.
The book isn't any longer than The Fellowship of the Ring, which was ONE film.
It could have been one film. It would have had to be necessarily compressed though, leaving out some key (to some) parts and characters.
I’m mostly happy with the Hobbit so far. Except... I wasn’t keen on the last action sequence inside the mountain. It was an unnecessary change. I think the original book word games between Bilbo and Smaug could have carried the story just fine. If they needed an action sequence to cap the story then use Smaug’s terrorization of Laketown for that. End there and leave the battle of five armies and thorin’s descent into darkness for the third movie. Plenty of material there.

You are forgetting that Jackson is incorporating many elements of the TA that were not in the novel
My daughter gave me the second installment on DVD as a birthday present. Halfway thru, I kept looking at my watch and wondering why they didn’t have time for the good parts of the book, but had time...and time, and time, and time...for nonsense fillers that had nothing to do with the plot. By the end, I concluded Jackson was just pissing on the audience and waiting to see if they caught on.
The guy just does not have a clue about plotting or story. And long before the end, I was utterly sick of the Matrix Elves. If one elf can kill 150 orcs without getting a scratch, then they had no excuse for not ridding Middle Earth of orcs forever.
Its a shame, but the TV movie “The Hobbit” from years ago was much closer to the spirit of the book.
