Was this post mis-quoting the operating system?

The article says 8.1 support is ending.

Does that mean 8.0 support?

Windows 8 support continues.

Windows 8.1 support continues if you keep installing upgrades as they are available. So far the upgrades are free, I don’t know if that will change.

The point of the article, if I understand it correctly, is that "Windows 8.1" will not be patched, and that users must get "Windows 8.1 Update" if they want security patches.

However... Microsoft itself yanked Windows 8.1 Update from the corporate WSUS update server chute almost a week ago and still hasn't offered a replacement.

You have to UPDATE 8.1 to 8.1 Update 1 to continue to getting patches.

This is a monumentally poorly-written communication. They are forcing 8.1 users to go to Update 1 to continue patching. This is most likely a security update that is irreversible.
