Oh, and just in case you happen to re-read this thread, what you are looking for in regards to a WinXP-like replacement that is not WinXP does not exist. You want something that will run Windows programs just like XP does but is not the Official MS Windows OS: There is no such distro. Microsoft still has not released the decades-old source code for even Win95a so it remains proprietary even after all this time.

They certainly have not indicated any intention of releasing the source code for XP even though they will no longer support it.

Sorry to have overloaded you with data, FReeper Reset. Best advice is just to avoid connecting to the internet on your XP computers or installing any new programs.

It is not a well written article, to be sure. Basically, you need to install 8.1 Update to continue to receive Security Patches for the ‘doze distro.
