Pittsburgh is extraordinarily fortunate to not be down 3-0. That said, I was at the game at Nationwide Arena last night and when the Pens went into desperation mode in the middle of the second, the display of good hockey was something to seriously witness.

The problem is when Columbus plays well their style is the Kryptonite to what Pittsburgh likes to do on the ice.

And the reverse side of that coin is that when Pittsburgh plays well, it’s Kryptonite to what the Jackets like to do. The Pens explode and score in bunches, and then before you know it the game is over. That’s what they did last night, and that’s what they always seem to do to the Jackets. I was also not too happy with Bob during that stretch; I think two of those goals were on him.

My sons sent me very excited texts about the start of the game (and one of them is a Penguins fan). My response was “that’s how game 2 started.”

Then Pens woke up and played with a sense of urgency. We’ll see how the Jackets respond to that.
