"Grave-like silence"

(Translated from Russian)

Kiev government is silent, or it talks with those with whom it is already too late.

At least 3 dead and about 100 injured in various clashes just on Sunday, a religious holiday - and a day of silence from all officials of ministerial level and above about the situation in the country. One after another Donbas regional centers and military properties are captured – and the government doesn’t consider it necessary to explain it to the people. It wasn’t until late in the evening, that the acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov spoke. Everyone can evaluate the adequacy of the speech for themselves.

Meanwhile, the picture of what is happening is obvious. Russian commandos and Rinat Akhmetov’s organized crime group (OCG) “Lux” captured administrative buildings throughout Donbass, in settlements now fully controlled by this criminal group. Primary targets - the police and SBU (the Security Service of Ukraine), which house weapons, which immediately go to arming the OCG.

The local population, majority of which is disoriented by the pro-Russian propaganda and is frightened by two decades of life "under the bandits" at best, believes tales about fair "referendum" that will solve all their problems, and at worst, is afraid of reprisals from the local criminals for their political position.

In fact, Russian commandos and their subordinate Ukrainian criminals from Donetsk OCG surround themselves with the local civilians, to use them as shields. Subsequent objective of the terrorists - disruption of life in the Donbas, fortified isolation of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions from the rest of the country, self-proclamation of the so-called "Donetsk republic" to be united with Russia . And if it doesn’t, Donbass awaits the fate of Transnistria - a destitute, disenfranchised Russian enclave, a "buffer zone" between Putin's Russia and the normal states.

Such is Russian plan.

But how does Ukraine respond to this threat?

Judge for yourself. Almost every Saturday – Sunday, Russia carries out another phase of the terrorist operation of "stirring up" regions of Ukraine. But the Ukrainian government reacts too late to it, with grave-like silence, like yesterday (April 13), when the Interior Minister lied about the completion of some "active phase of the anti-terrorist operation" in Slavyansk, town captured by the Russian specnaz and the local criminals.

As for the other members of the government and the party leaders, they give no signs of life. It got to the point that Kiev journalists on Sunday evening were calling each other with the same question – has the new leadership fled the country, as Yanukovych did earlier?

The decision of the National Security and Defence Council (RNBO) had been stunning. The majority did not support the proposal of Avakov and Pashynskiy (acting Interior Minister and Head of Administration of the President) to implement a state of emergency in Donetsk and Lugansk regions. As a result, this allowed the Russian specnaz and the local bandits to move on the territory of Donbass freely around the clock. Also, it was free to move to and from Russia - given the porous Ukrainian-Russian border and visa-free travel that the Ukrainian government was adamant to maintain.

Recall, that the RNBO is composed of 16 people. Its head is Turchynov, the entire security unit of the Cabinet, plus Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, National Bank of Ukraine, plus a representative of the Maidan, Victoria Syumar. We are stating here: all political powers that control the government today assume the responsibility for not implementing the state of emergency and the subsequent developments of the situation in the country.

As you recall, an anti-terrorist operation in Slavyansk was declared on Saturday evening, but was suspended after the security forces refused to enter the city without the cover of armored vehicles. The anti-terrorist unit sustained casualties after its leading elements took heavy fire at the entrance to the city. Armored vehicles did not enter the city and the officers referred to the lack of the state of emergency as their reason for not doing so. As a result, law enforcement officers succeeded only to knock down separatist roadblocks at the entrance to Slavyansk and the operation failed.

Now, a separate topic on the assets of the separatists, their business and property.

Leader of OCG, Akhmetov cannot possess telecommunication and energy companies, steel mills or any other assets or offices in Kiev or abroad. Otherwise, the whole country is paying money to this criminal ringleader, the same money which is aimed to destroy Ukraine, as his criminal gang shoots Ukrainian servicemen. Instead of a hard ultimatum for "Ahmet" and the 3000 active members of his organization, the government is “negotiating” with him, negotiating about nothing. Prime Minister Yatseniuk flew in to bow to him, Tymoshenko involves him in her schemes, his opinion is taken into account when Turchynov makes his decisions, and so on.

But "Ahmet" and his bros – are an underground crime group, fully controlled by the Russian specnaz. "Ahmet" and his bros are direct accomplices to the shootings at Maidan. For quarter of a century, these animals were drowning their "native Donbass" in blood. It is on this blood that they built their wealth while robbing their own countrymen. And now this criminal brotherhood is announcing to all of Ukraine Putin’s propositions, giving an ultimatum to the tens of millions law-abiding citizens of Ukraine.

Government negotiations with the criminals of "Ahmet", after everything that happened, are beyond comprehension. Card-game fraudster Akhmetov, who rose to be the ringleader of the biggest gang, now allows himself the audacity to blackmail an entire nation? Speaking on behalf of "all of Donbass", which he had robbed and plundered? Is this the other negotiating side?

If the answer is "yes" - counter-terrorist operation in the Donbass is doomed to failure.

Few notes:

- Rinat Akhmetov is Ukraine's wealthiest man. He and his ally, the former president Yanukovich, hail from Donbas region.

- The "criminal" epithets in the article might seem excessive but given the Donbas region, they are not too inappropriate. Donbas/Donetsk is the crime capital of Ukraine; it is not an exaggeration, but a sad fact. 1990s were especially bad. It was during this time that people like Yanukovich and Akhmetov, who had links to the organized crime, rose to power. "Ahmet" is given here as the criminal name of Akhmetov; Yanukovich was "Kham"

“1990s were especially bad. It was during this time that people like Yanukovich and Akhmetov, who had links to the organized crime, rose to power. “

Interestingly, Julia Tymoshenko the “gas princess” was able to gain control of all Russian gas imports into the country about that time, becoming a multi billionaire in 5 years.
We should all study her, to see how in a cesspool of rampant corruption, only SHE was an ethical honest business person to arise when everyone else was wallowing in post USSR era poverty./

All the prospective leaders over there seem a bit off to me.

I guess we shouldn’t say too much though...look at the bunch we have in office over here :-/

Last good man we had was Reagan.

Yup, and I get a feeling he is stirring up trouble and that at least a few of the protesters are sent in by Russia to foment unrest.

Of course the US would never do such a thing...would we?

I sure wish we had left Ukraine alone :-(
