Manny Pacquiao outfoxed and outworked Timothy Bradley – is Floyd Mayweather next?
The Guardian ^ | 04/13/2014

The rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley played out almost exactly like the first instalment. The only difference was the outcome.

Pacquiao reclaimed the welterweight title he surrendered amid controversy to Bradley two years ago, rectifying one of the most mystifying decisions in boxing history with a clinical points victory before 15,601 rollicking fans. Two of the ringside judges had Pacquiao winning 116-112, the third scored it 118-112. The Guardian had it 116-112.

So few put stock in Bradley’s split-decision win in June 2012 – a verdict that reeked of incompetence at best – that whatever redemption was wrought on Saturday night at the MGM Grand was more symbolic than substantive. Fighting, not the fighter, was atoned.

It was a triumph unlikely to be counted among Pacquiao’s greatest hits, such is the depth of the Filipino’s catalog. There was no highlight-reel knockout, nor did it require a dramatic rise in weight. But make no mistake: this was one of the more impressive outings of a storied career.

Pacquiao, at 35, outworked and outfoxed a younger champion widely regarded as among the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He absorbed Bradley's best shots in the early rounds and relied on his speed, power and mastery of angles to entice him into toe-to-toe exchanges that played to his weaknesses.

Floyd Mayweather does not have a lot of credible opponents left. It is becoming almost impossible to turn down Pacquaio’s constant challenge at this point in time.

BRING IT ON !!

I would love to see Pacquiao wipe the smirk off of Mayweather’s face. I would have wished to see this some 5-7 years ago when Pacquiao was in his prime though. So much for ducking the best fighters Mayweather.

Pacquiao only had a chance against Mayweather when he was in his prime. That is, when he dominated Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, etc., that is, when he with completly roided out. Now it would be absolute mismatch.

Watched the entire fight with friends while responding to FR LOL. Bradley was very classy at the post-fight segments and he got outboxed, simple as that.

Floyd will NEVER fight manny, even as manny said yes to those stupid demands of his of 60% box office share and drug testing . Floyd knows Manny is the ONLY one who can beat his ass in the ring.

Picture the job Duran in his prime would have done on Mayweather...

Agreed. If he'd defeated Juan Manuel Marquez convincingly, maybe there'd be something to talk about. Right now, as much as I'd like to see Mayweather get humbled, Pacquialo isn't the man to do it.

I think he is a congressman. As far as anything else goes, I can only speculate, but I think he is a serious church going guy and has some charitable work going on.

What gets me is how all of the ‘sportscasters’ (radio and tv) and everyday folks have jumped on the bandwagon over football players and head injuries!

More rules, better helmets etc. etc.

These same people have NO Problem with two guys beating the other guys brains out as long as they’re boxers!

Hypocrites

He was planning a hotel casino then he swore off gambling, so I think that’s a no.

Agree , Bradley improved tremendously... but he still had to resort to his signature head butt at the end when he knew he had lost the fight.
