The band’s albums bring them money today but I recall them saying somewhere in the early 90s when they’d signed to majors that the label (David Geffen?) was getting $50million while they had to split $1million.
When you are being exploited to that degree, you can harbor some ill will. Especially when the top dog is gloating about it.
Of course, they signed a contract so they have no one to blame. I can sympathise to a point. It is a raw deal. But no one forced them into it.
The industry has a long and well known history of exploitation. Every musician that gets to the level where they are offered a record deal is well aware of it. They do it anyway with stars in their eyes. Sucks, but they could say no and negotiate a better deal....though that would require sobriety.
