Not getting caught story:
During summer between my 7th and 8th grade, I and 4 of my friends wanted to play a joke on a dork at school. We went to the library and filled out hundreds of magazine subscriptions to go to his house. After getting every magazine there, we then looked through catalogs for whatever items free or for charge we could send to his house (I distinctly sending a box of 100 Bibles to his house). One friend went to a porno shop and ordered every magazine and thing they had there. (We spent many many study halls filling out these slips)
I remember when we had a stack a foot high of order slips we began heading to a big blue mail box I started getting a very bad feeling about it. “Uh, maybe we shouldn’t do this?” Too late. Larry dropped them all in.
The night before 1st day of school, this kid’s dad called my dad (like he called lots of dads that night) and was furious saying he had to hire a team of people to contact all these companies to cancel all these orders.
My dad never asked if we did it, but said the police were doing an investigation. I felt sick to the stomach.
The first day of school our principle called all the students of school to the gymnasium. We thought it’d might be a rally for the first day of school, but he was accompanied by the kid’s dad and he began how serious it was that had happened and whoever it was would be suspended might have charges filed against them. I felt my heart stop and I could imagine the sweat dripping down my friend’s faces.
Amazing we were never individually interrogated or I’m sure we would have buckled quickly.
