I will not own a dog that bites.

That said, no pit bulls. Not now not ever

And dog doors are a bad idea

All dogs bite. They are carnivores descended from wolves.

We humans must always be the alpha and set strict limits and teach our dogs not to bite.

Its not the breed - its how to owner socializes and trains the dog to be a good canine citizen.

I understand what you are trying to say. Here's the problem, though: a vet once explains to me that ANY dog that's alive and has teeth WILL bite under the right circumstances.

I agree with you, though, that I would not own a dog which is inclined to be aggressive, and pit bulls certainly meet that criterion.

Back when I was a pup in the South, and incredibly old black man passed on this nugget of wisdom to me: “Any dog with teeth will bite”...

The last thing on my two dog's minds is/was killing another dog or a person. There's too many tennis balls in the world that must be eradicated first.

I've had a purebred Chocolate Labrador Retriever, and also a purebred German Shorthair Pointer. (Seen above rescuing a tennis ball from certain drowning) The lab retrieves. It's what she has always done, without me showing her how. It's what she loves to do. The pointer points. She has always done it. She just knows how from birth. Dogs are bred for specific purposes. Some variability exists within that, and the dog's owner can elicit a particular behavior or tendency based upon training, but a dog is still a product of its breeding.

Dog doors are a great idea if utiiized properly.

When I am not home, the dog door has a metal plate that slides over the opening. Nobody that should be in is out, and no one out gets in.
