You are trying to defend a disgruntled employee who should have been fired for what he did. If the manager was a bad manager, then he should be fired too.
It is never acceptable for a line employee to unilaterally decide to close a business and, on top of that, to post a public notice on the door defaming the establishment!
Again, how long does he wait?
Does he wait or does he go home so he can drop his wife off at work, or his child at daycare?
Again, how many times do you put up with this, and what would you do if corporate ignores you?
What if the manager is the owner’s child?
