Best-selling author Kevin Trudeau, whose name became synonymous with late-night TV pitches, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday for bilking consumers through ubiquitous infomercials for his book, "The Weight Loss Cure 'They' Don't Want You to Know About." As he imposed the sentence prosecutors had requested, U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman portrayed the 50-year-old Trudeau as a habitual fraudster going back to his early adulthood. So brazen was Trudeau, the judge said, he once even used his own mother's Social Security number in a scheme.
"Since his 20s, he has steadfastly attempted to cheat others for his own gain," Guzman said, adding that Trudeau is "deceitful to the very core."
Trudeau, whose trademark dyed black hair turned partially gray as he awaited sentencing in jail, showed little emotion as the stiff sentence was handed down at the hearing in Chicago.
Addressing the judge earlier in a 10-minute statement, Trudeau apologized and said he's become a changed man. He said he's meditated, prayed and read self-help books while locked up at Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center.

Obama’s deception will create more economic chaos than any self help author could imagine.
Two problems
He isn’t black or whatever flavor of the day
He must not have paid off his favorite rats.
You can write a book saying anything you want to, but you can't advertise the book as not requiring dieting when it does. That's fraud.
Although I suspect anybody who followed the diet did indeed lose weight!
The Way To Get Free Healthcare “They Won’t Tell You About”.
I understood that...just a general comment on the entire situation.
I always turned the tv channel when he would come on.
Just curious, who made the decision that he was defrauding people when he sold his books?
Something about airlifting stones whilst encased in a melted-sand abode...
He says he's not associated with any of the things he's "selling"...but they have to be sponsors of some sort.
Everyone knows that “Free Money” only comes from Obama’s stash!
Perfect!
So what is the difference between this man selling his cures then Cosmetic companies selling you lotion after lotion promising younger looking skin? Or cosmetic companies telling you that the plumping mascara will make your lashes look younger which they don’t unless you have long lashes to begin with.
And "If You Like Your Doctor, You Can Keep Him"
And "Obamacare is Revenue Neutral."
The problem wasn’t he was selling snake oil, he was selling snake oil in defiance of federal court orders he was subject to. That my friends will get you in the hoosgow.
If you want to write a book about losing weight that requires folks to follow a 500 calorie a day diet, fine... But when you go on TV and tell people your book tells you how to lose weight without being hungry on a 500 calorie a day diet, you are going to get yourself in trouble.
This guys been a bamboozler his entire life, and had courts order him to stop doing it for decades, he kept on doing it... Finally caught up to him.
Lie with dogs, wake up with fleas.
ah....the piece de resistance
Maybe there is something in one or more of his books which really struck a nerve.
If you read the article, there are a lot of bad facts here.
The Federal Trade Commission sued him (civilly) for false advertising. He lost, and there was a court order against him to stop running the ads and pay restitution. He continued to run the ads-- 32,000 times after the court order-- and hid all his money in shell companies to avoid paying the restitution.
The criminal conviction was not for the original false advertising, but for criminal contempt of court.
This gets more headlines for corrupt prosecutors.
William F. Buckley thought when his son was talking about "Trudeau", he was referring to Pierre.
All those Elis stick together...
