Understood. (At my advanced age, however, it seems unimportant. Since the lady is only 25, yes it would be something she will want to consider....thanks)

I had mine done at about that age. Doc said do all four at once. I am glad I did.

I had similarly impacted lower wisdom teeth (tipped forward against the molar in front). I delayed too long because I’d have had to go to an oral surgeon. They weakened the enamel on the adjacent molar, leading to a bad cavity below the gum line, then came the root canal. I wish that I had got mine out sooner!

I assume her regular dentist is telling her this.

Is he also suggesting that he do the work, or is he sending her to an oral surgeon? Taking out wisdom teeth is not that easy and she would likely best be served by an OS.

If the local dentist is suggesting that he do the work he may have a $ummer trip to Europe or Hawaii in hi$ future plan$.

I still have three of my wisdom teeth. The one I don’t have anymore cracked and I had it surgically extracted about ten years ago.

She’s 25 years old with limited dental insurance, on my Health Plan until December.

Don’t know how things are in the military now but when I was in they routinely had us get them removed. I later asked my civilian dentist if this was a good idea and he said yes.

Those look like they’re going to be trouble, J4J. They need to go. Get an Oral Surgeon to do the job, not the Dentist. They’re buried, so I imagine the Dentist isn’t going to want to do it anyway.

Do it now. My bottom front teeth are crooked and crowded together because I waited too long. I’ve been kicking myself for the last 25 years.

I had my 4 removed in my late teens/early 20s.

The lower ones did not have room to come in fully and they were causing the other teeth to be crowded.

The upper ones were coming in angled, which would have caused later problems.

The upper ones were easy for the dentist to ‘pop out’. The lowers ones were a different story. The Dentist actually had to break them into pieces and suction the pieces. It wasn’t actually as painful as the thoughts and sounds during the dental procedure.

Ask a dentist. I had 3 out of 4 removed when I was 25. One just popped out, the other two required minor surgery. I’ve never had any problems since. The fourth was hard to get to and the dentist didn’t think it would cause any problems.

My sister had a friend from college, in her early 20’s, who went boating with some friends, had a toothache, went to the emergency room and was dead from an impacted wisdom tooth, all in the same day. I’d say don’t ignore it.

Her regular Dentist referred her to an Oral Surgeon.

Every dentist I’ve had since the age of 18 has told me my impacted wisdom teeth needed to come out.
I’m almost 70 and they haven’t bothered me yet.

And here I thought asking for financial advice on an anonymous internet forum was kind of odd ...

any actual dentists on the thread?

A waterpik flosser will solve that popcorn problem for you. I got one for Christmas and was delighted to find that it was the bees knees in blasting out popcorn hulls.

I did accidentally irrigate my sinuses with it the first use, though.

All I remember was ‘morphine....”;)

Funny ... my daughter Skyped me just last night. She is having some tongue pain and she likely has an infection in the wisdom tooth area (great for a singer!). She is gargling salt water and peroxide (not at the same time).

She is 20 years old and about to graduate from college and move across the country. She will come home for 3 or so months before she moves away, so it seems like an ideal time to get this done (finals are next week, so after that).

She is chicken too ... and such an incredible baby. I almost took a 2x4 to her because the doc could not get near her to do the IV for her tonsillectomy last year. I will stop by the hardware store this weekend. :)

I had mine out at 18 ... the pressure of them moving my teeth around was causing debilitating headaches. Such useless teeth!
