All the comments about how the illegals (and maybe even the legals) are ripping off the country are true. However, consider the remittances sent out of the country. What can the recipient do with that money? It's in dollars. They don't use dollars there. The only thing that can be done with the money is convert it into local currency at a bank or other financial institution. What then happens to the dollars? They are used by other locals there to buy goods and services from the US. The money comes back here to employ Americans.

Understand, I'm not saying that letting these people rip us off is a good idea. It isn't, and we should stop it. I am saying that money sent out of the country as remittances is not lost to the US. It comes back to us because this is the only country where dollars can be spent. Remittances don't harm the US, any more than tourist dollars exchanged for foreign currency hurt the US. The money comes back to purchase our exports.
