What I think that it actually shows is that people want their religion to be what they want it to be, that’s why we have so many denominations.
When Jesus talked about Himself being the bread of life many of his followers were scandalized and walked away.
“Jesus said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. “
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
They were looking for their Savior and looking right at Him and they walked away because God’s omnipotence was beyond their understanding.
Some of the theology of the Catholic church is hard to understand but we follow the Apostles who remained with Jesus and who knew and replied, Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
There are “hard teachings”, but like Peter before us we stay because we recognize our Savior.
For those ACTIVE Catholics who have beliefs contrary to Catholic theology-well, they are in the right place, they are in the place where Truth is taught and God willing the Holy Spirit will touch their hearts and give them understanding. I will continue to trust Jesus for their salvation as well as my own.
Where Truth is taught- with much error , even extending to Bible scholarship , and which works to make truth void.
