Chicks loved 'em to death, when they weren't mechanically and/or electrically fubar.
Hence, the adage 'making hay while the sun shines' wasn't just good farming advice.

I guess I’m even older than you! My introduction to the Prince of Darkness was a 1959 MGA fixed head (coup in US auto language). I really loved that car. Drove it thru high school. Sold it when i joined the Navy in ‘69.
I had a friend in high school that owned an MG, every other day it was “can I get a ride to school dude” or “I gotta pull the motor so I can get to [insert British car $.50 part that can only be replaced by pulling out drive train or other major component]”
