The tech at Ford who does the “works” package on your car is expected to
perform it in .6 -.9 of an hour.
Just so you know.

preftection for Ferrari maybe, but the world record is by RedBull...

2013 US Grand Prix: The Red Bull Racing Team completed a pit stop for Mark Webber in 1.923 seconds.[27] This is the fastest F1 pit stop ever.

I’d like them to change the rules to have no equipment “over the wall” until the car is stopped. Like some other series we have. Make those pit guys work a bit.

This stuff has come a long way.
There’s actually a training company called “PitFit” here in Indy.

Last time I put my snowy-tires on it took me 45 minutes. If these guys aren’t required to drink a beer during the procedure it doesn’t count, IMHO.

That was actually slow for an F1 pit stop.

How many Ferrari guys does it take to change a tire?

Seriously though ... dang, that was fast.

Even with the £6000 air gun, the average NASCAR guy can’t get an F1 wheel off in less then 3 seconds. I watched a couple try it on the Thursday before the USGP last season. Its like a demented ballet. The pit lane guys practice every minute of downtime they have. The teams spend unreal amounts of time and money coming up with swivel jacks and other equipment to shave tenths of a second off.

That’s a far cry from the days when AJ Foyt would climb out of his car and bang on his engine with a wrench. I especially liked the rear left tire man who flicked out a piece of grit from the pit lane. Attention to detail!

I’m old enough to remember when an F1 race had no scheduled pit stops and because of that and other factors Ferrari pit stops were comically bad. In the good old days the Wood Brothers of NASCAR were the gold standard of pit stop speed and efficiency. I am glad F1 now has scheduled pit stops and other innovations and a Ferrari pit stop is no longer a joke.

No. Not the jack guy. The guy just to the jack man’s right who remains standing the whole time and has a little cart with some device or monitor attached to its handle.

Okay, I see who you are talking about. I think that man holds the starter in case the driver stalls it. See the cables that come out of that box? I thought you were talking about the jackman, or the backup jackman who is standing on the yellow line. As to the man you are talking about, I have no idea what the stick he is holding is used for, but the silver thing in his left hand is a starter.
