Philip Seymour was found dead in his West Village apartment this weekend of an apparent drug overdose. As his Hollywood colleagues mourn the actor's loss, many are still left wondering what happens to Hoffman's many projects he had in the works.
Hoffman had a fairly hefty role in "The Hunger Games" franchise, having just been introduced as game master Plutarch Heavensbee in November's super successful "Catching Fire," which earned nearly $860 million at the box office.
At the time of his death, Hoffman was just finishing up shooting on "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2," but Lionsgate says his passing won't affect either film's Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015 release date.
According to Lionsgate, the majority of Hoffmans scenes had been completed, with just seven days left to shoot on Mockingjay Part 2.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" cast and crew released a joint statement saying, Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. Were very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philips family.
Meanwhile, Variety reports "Hoffman was also attached to direct the Prohibition era drama Ezekiel Moss, which Exclusive Media was set to start selling at the European Film Market in Berlin" but due to the circumstances, "the company released a statement saying it will not be presenting the film to buyers, 'while producers explore the next steps for the film.'"
But with five projects currently in the works, Hoffman had an additional two in the can.

Didn’t they need him for part 3???
Maybe they will replace him with CGI???
I admit to an almost dangerous taste for conspiracy but since he did The Master, about L Ron Hubbard, I’ve wondered if scientologists might not seek some retribution.
His drug abuse was well known..it’s amazing the producers were able to get completion insurance
Taking a page from teh Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, they have been filming both halves of the third book at the same time - the first half of book 3 hits theaters this November, and the second half in November 2015.
I wonder if CGI technology - in both visuals, and voice recreation - has advanced enough to undetectably use a virtual Hoffman in the remaining scenes.
When you consider the possibilities of having the character “speak” his lines at a distance from the camera, and/or using actual footage of Hoffman from previous shoots - just masking out the background and CGI-ing in facial movements - it isn’t as far fetched as one might think.
Mocking Jay is the title of the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Colins.
Since the novel deals with organizing and executing a war of rebellion ultimately leading to the downfall of the Capital, Lionsgate has split the third novel into two parts for filming - for purely artistic reasons, I’m sure ($$$).
The actor had finished filming his scenes for both parts, so his unfortunate death won’t effect post-production and release of the films.
Wouldn’t they need permission from his family/partner?
How about if they replace him with an extra with a cape held over his face, as Ed Wood did with Bela Legosi in “Planet 9 From Outer Space”?
just an idea... trying to think out of the box here.
I think the Screen Actors Guild would have some issues with using a CGI replacement.
They got into a very big battle over this when Crispin Glover declined to appear in Back to the Future Part II.
They hired some other actor to do an impersonation of him
in the part. It cheesed him off and now union rules
prohibit that.
That was part 3.
“...for purely artistic reasons, Im sure ($$$).”
It doesn’t hold a candle to making 3 movies out of “the hobbit”, how long is that book, about 200 pp?
Well, if TV ads can have John Wayne out and about selling Coors Beer, and Steve McQueen selling the 2005 Ford Mustang, then certainly something should be possible
...ESPECIALLY when an actor's irresponsibility keeps them from meeting already existing contractual obligations.
Don’t forget Back to the Future, Parts II and III.
If a new actor can play Dumbledore a new one can play Plutarch

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
“The death of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who died Sunday with a syringe full heroine stuck in his arm, is being lamented by many, but not by me. Hoffman narrated an antigun cartoon which demonizes gun ownership along with actress Julianne Moore and of course, it was financed by MAIG. The media is falling all over themselves saying what a wonderful guy he was, what a wonderful actor he was, and on and on. I disagree. People like Hoffman are part of the drug culture that is destroying our young people and tearing the fabric of this county apart.”
