I was surprised when I heard Bruno Mars was going to be the halftime performer. I must admit I think he did an excellent job. I’m not a fan of his music, but he put on a very good performance.

Got that right. My wife was quick to point out how sharply dressed Mars and his band were, while the RHCP plausibly looked like homeless guys picked-up on some corner in Newark.
RHCP is getting WAAAAAY too long in the tooth for that act.
I suspect that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were for the older folks to keep them from tuning out Mars.
I hadn't expected much out of the show and will be the first to admit I was plesantly surprised. Mars put on a very entertaining performance. All in all he did a better job than the Denver offence did.
