I have read so many offensive anti-immigrant posts on FR in the last few weeks that I actually cancelled my monthly payment today because I don’t want to support anything that gives people like you a forum.
I did this even though I suspect that many of the most ravingly anti-immigrant (particularly, anti-Hispanic) posters here are probably Dem plants trying to (and succeeding in) riling up the latent nativists. Of course, they never mention the LEGALLY imported Muslims living on federal and state handouts and planting bombs in their spare time, while the Mexican gardeners are actually out there just cutting people’s lawns.
It’s a pity that you’re being used like this, but that’s what it is, and I sure don’t want to contribute to it.
Take the most offensive post you can find about illegal immigrants, multiply it by 10 and that might express my attitude towards those who push them on us.
Are you just a teeny bit curious about the anti-ILLEGAL immigrant feelings you are encountering? Do not confuse legal immigration with illegal immigration, that is what liberals want everyone to do. I know of no one that is against LEGAL immigration.
Many here, including me, do expect immigrants to assimilate and become Americans. I do not want to give up my culture so others will feel more welcome. As far as I am concerned they are welcome to become Americans, not bring their country with them and expect me to give up my culture.
I do not want anyone to lose their culture, but I am tired of standing by while my culture, family traditions, way of life is becoming politically incorrect and people are coming here from other countries with no desire or intention of becoming Americans and expecting us to change our ways for them.
As to the “Mexican gardeners are actually out there just cutting people’s lawns” Really? That sounds pretty racist, Hispanics are doing any and every job you can dream of, not just mowing grass. Fact is Hispanics, Mexicans, etc. are not all perfect working people either...many are criminals, lazy bums on welfare, the whole scope just as people of any race and culture.
Racist is thinking all Hispanic, Mexicans are just hard working people and anyone that opposes illegal immigration is racist. Many are hard working but not all. Racist is thinking “white” people won’t do that work when white people do that kind of work every day.
Those of us that live on the border personally deal with the issues of an unsecured border every single day. We deal with failed immigration policy and the results of our government refusing to enforce immigration laws. Living on the border I daily deal with issues that I should not have to deal with. I am against illegal immigration by anyone from anywhere but due to where I live am more familiar with those crossing our border with Mexico. They are not all Mexicans that cross here either...from many countries, even countries that are terrorist friendly. That concerns me greatly.
Don’t go away, though. I just realized you are a translator, the most unappreciated, unsung heroes of publishing. You can bet your last quarter that whenever anyone says they love a foreign author, the person they love without realizing it is the translator.
As for the substance of your post, I could care less about the speaking of Spanish, or any other language, instead of English, or anything else about the culture differences. If the person loves America, I don’t care if they came here yesterday. Not in favor of lawbreaking in any form but that wasn’t your point.
