NYPD cops beat an old man bloody…for jaywalking

The New York Police Department is receiving widespread criticism after officers injured an 84-year-old man—who doesn’t speak English and didn’t understand police orders—for the crime of jaywalking.

Kang Wong committed jaywalking at an Upper West Side intersection in New York City around 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to the New York Post. He is a resident of the area.

An officer soon approached him and tried to write him a ticket. But Wong, who speaks only broken English, didn’t understand what was happening, and continued walking away from the officer. When the officer tried to grab him, he pushed back. This prompted the fury of several cops, who descended on Wong and threw him against a wall. The elderly man came away from the encounter with a bloodied face. (RELATED: Cop was at fault in car crash, but guess who got blamed)

Wong was handcuffed and taken to the hospital and then the police station.

Wong’s 41-year-old son met his father at the station. He was shocked by what police had done.

“Oh, great! Beating up on an 84-year-old man for jaywalking,” said the son in a statement.

Later that night, Wong was released, but will face charges of jaywalking, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct.

The incident was witnessed by several reporters who were on-scene because a pedestrian had been killed when crossing the street hours earlier.

The fight didn’t start because of jaywalking. It started because the guy walked off and then he pushed the cops when they stopped him again. Yeah, it’s a bad situation but it’s not like they threw him to the ground because he was out of the crosswalk.

Beat him again and throw the book at him. He shoulda learned the language before he went wandering our streets.

Repeatedly taser the old fart! And before every jolt, scream at him “SPEEKEE ENGRISH? NO JAY WALKEEE!!”

Cops seem to suffer some kind of Little Ceasar syndrome ... just can't STAND to be ignored or disobeyed.

It's not the 'crime' that infutriates them, they expect crime to occur and it's, Hey, part of the job, y'know?

But to ignore or disobey (for whatever reason) ... NOW you've dome it!

Mortal Sin, Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, immediate retribution with the help of at least two other men.

I'd take the money you win and go back to China ... some provincial place .. and live like a king at the exchange rate.

I wonder if this is Stop and Frisk 2.0, with the added wrinkle that they need stats showing they’re not picking on blacks, so they hassle hundreds of thousands of non-blacks whom they don’t remotely suspect of drug or weapon possession. This could tank de Blasio’s poll ratings big time.

They had to beat him bloody to save him. But don’t worry, the police have investigated and have declared that the officers acted correctly.

Nah, just yellow girbilism from the leftist press.
Read more accounts.

Basic story, guy gets written a ticket for jaywalking.
Guy tries to walk off as the officer is writing.
Officer grabs guy.
Guy initiates shoving match and tries to flee.
Officer shoves the guy to the ground, which (being concrete) scrapes him up.
Officer calls for more cops, and the guy is taken to Saint Lukes Hospital.
The end.

No anal cavity search on the sidewalk.
No continuous beating with billy clubs.
They didn’t taze him, bro.
No dogs were shot.
Nobody was sexually groped.
No doors were smashed in a no knock raid.

None of the thug behavior that warants a donutwatch thread.
If you get a ticket, just take it home and pay it later.
If you go to a foreign country, learn the language and don’t start a shoving match with the cops. Even if (or especially if) you are past your prime.

Thats this whole story in a nutshell.

Appears true but maybe this guy did what we Americans should all do? Fight against aggressive authority and the selective enforcement of laws.

How much crime & corruption in NY? how many illegals walking around including caught and released yet police resources (our taxes) are used to stop people from using adult judgment to cross a street for their own good?

84 year old people should be treated with respect. They may not be able to see, hear, or think clearly.

I don’t want to live in a world like this. I will resist heartless, impersonal, heavy handed government at every turn. A small government conservative can do no less. Small government means a weaker, less pervasive government. Small government means bigger individuals. Bigger individuals means more personal responsibility. Responsibility to take care of the people around us.

Jaywalking laws are designed to protect people, ensure safety, and make society better.

How does jacking up, beating up and ticketing an old man do any of that? Was he jay walking? Yup. If safety and a better society is the goal, and there are a crowd of cops around, get the guy safely across the street. Isn’t that the job? Isn’t the job to keep people safe? Or is the job taking money from old men, antagonizing citizens and beating the crap out them? Is the job handing out sanction or preserving life? What is the purpose of cops, traffic laws, courts, judges? Tell me, what is the purpose?

Is it to better society? Or are these laws just designed to flex municipal power? I can tell you what the purpose of these laws are. The purpose of these laws is whatever we make of them. Which do you choose? Safety and well being of society, or just flexing the muscles of city hall?

Well, yeah. They did. They got home safe at the end of their shifts, didn't they? That's all that matters....

It's the proverbial rock and a hard place. No body really cares about jaywalking. Everybody does it. However, four people have been killed in that intersection in the not-too-distant past. The community has been screaming for the cops to do something, anything to stop it.

So cops are there everyday giving out tickets to drivers who make bad turns or run lights. Then word comes down that it's not just the cars fault. Pedestrians wreak havoc as well. So set up a jaywalking checkpoint.

Basically this is another case of if the cops do nothing they get hammered for it. If the cops take action, they get hammered for it. You just can't win.

Welcome to the brave new world of Socialist DiBlasio!

Consumed by new power, he and Bratton decide to crack down on jaywalking by putting cops on dangerous corners and hand out tickets.

Makes sense, but, an adult would have mounted a campaign for a couple of weeks to warn the population that they were going to start enforcing laws completely ignored for 40 years.

The next four years are going to be a disaster in NYC. This is just a sign of how incompetent this amateur hour Mayor is going to be.

“The fight didn’t start because of jaywalking. It started because the guy walked off and then he pushed the cops when they stopped him again. Yeah, it’s a bad situation but it’s not like they threw him to the ground because he was out of the crosswalk.”

So do I take it that you condone the cops behavior? BTW, one of his sons is a lawyer and I hope that there’s a huge lawsuit coming. This is about as bad as the a$$hole cops in New Mexico taking the guy from a traffic stop in for a COLONOSCOPY in search of drugs up his bunghole! That guy has just settled with the cops and the city for $1.6 million and now is on with his suits against the doctors and the hospital. I just hope this old man gets a huge payday from all of those “liberals” in NYC.
You might want to go to the Daily Caller article and read about the other cop outrages du jour. Read about the 16 year old kid who had his testicles squeezed to hard by a female cop doing a “pat down” that she managed to rupture them.
