I like Alex but he might be the one to go home.

My totally subjective opinion of these three:

Caleb loves what he does, and fits the part. I’m guessing he’s been doing the band thing for a while, even as young as he is. And at first you think he’s going to be a decent karaoke rock star. At the beginning, that is all I thought about him, until a couple of performances. He was flawless. Well, if he had flaws I couldn’t detect them. Far better than I expected. His voice is very good (I’m not talking opera here, but rock and roll) and he can control it very well.

My favorite thing about Caleb is that he is one of those Idols who has grown on the show. His stage presence has gone from aping rock star persona to putting his own personality in it. He great a bit more confident and then slipped into arrogance with that comment he made, but I decided that could be the Moment that changed him from a budding a-hole to a performer with deep gratitude to the fans who have truly made him popular. Um, I’m hoping. He seemed more humble in the clips we saw from his hometown trip. Anyway, he is good enough to pay for a ticket to see, IMO. And 22 is young! I have a 22 year old son. And I was 22 once. There is much room for improvement at that age! Monica Lewinsky would also agree. (In hindsight, surely oral sex with a married president in the Oval Office wasn’t the big career move she had always hoped it was.)

Ginanotjenna is talented but quite young and a bit too wide eyed giggly. But she is young. She has a style that might work well commercially because she can achieve the rounded coffee house enunciations that are so popular AND belt like a diva. She would be possibly more pleasant to hear than Katy Perry over and over, whose voice is strong but very plain to me. She definitely has potential. She connects with the song and the audience and is comfortable on stage, and her singing has occasional moments of brilliance.

Alex has a unique voice and good control of it. I believe he works hard on each song and puts his all into it. He is a lot like a Jason Mraz or Elvis Costello if he can also write, and could be the quirky, strange looking singer songwriter with a focused following. He could have some huge hits or a one hit wonder. His problem is that he has a charisma account that is deeply overdrawn. The guy might be shy or insecure but he absolutely looks uncomfortable pretty much always. Only those overheard dinner scenes show him smiling comfortably. So if he can overcome those feelings, maybe in five years he will look back on his Idol days and laugh at how stiff and uncomfortable he looked. But if he can’t, his stage presence is “Look away!” lamentable. His clothes might be his preference but they don’t make him seem comfortable in his skin, so then they look like an artifice. I enjoyed him most this season when I was not looking at the screen. I do think he is the weaker of the three because he isn’t connecting to the audience as much as the others. That does affect votes.
