It’s actually a very easy problem for Rick to solve. Let’s assume the worst case: she killed them while they were sick, and then burned the bodies (as opposed to them dying and then her burning the bodies). She was a caregiver. The story is — they both knew they were going to die, and were terrified that others would get the virus. Nearing death, they begged her to burn their bodies after they died to kill the virus. She honored their wishes, and did so. End of case, and Tyreese would have no real reason to be upset.

A little white lie and the issue goes away.

There is no way that Hershel could tell if they died of the virus, or if Carol killed them. Not with burnt bodies and a blood streak as the only clues.

Everyone is acting under that assumption, though. And Carol isn’t disputing it.

It’s a poor assumption, and Rick should be the one pointing it out, although anyone could if they applied common sense. Carol’s admittance was to Rick, so he doesn’t have to convey that to others.

But even if Hershel could show that they were alive (making Hershel the Quincy of veterinarians), it is still relatively easy for Rick to turn this into a non-issue. They were dying, and suffering terribly. They had earlier indicated their demand that their bodies be burned to prevent the virus from spreading. When they are beginning to become unable to breath, Carol wants to go get help, but realizes that they are essentially gone. Seeing their bodies beginning to convulse, and seeing them in complete agony, she euthanizes them, and then burns their bodies in accordance with their wishes.

Two little white lies, and problem solved.

What would T’s problem be then? That she didn’t let them suffer? That she honored their wishes? The only potential issue would be that she didn’t fess up earlier. But, she’s a woman, and therefore emotional. She was so upset at what she had to do that she couldn’t bring herself to talk about it. She was scared that no-one would understand. There are plenty of excuses. Plus, she didn’t deny it when Rick confronted her.

I figure that there’s probably stuff that happens off screen that leads them to believe the way they do. Perhaps Hershel or Dr. S. had left Karen and David’s cells shortly before their charred bodies were found. We don’t know how sick Karen and David were, but I don’t think that much time had passed after putting them in quarantine. While it’s possible one of them could have died and turned into a Walker in such a short period of time, it’s unlikely that both of them died and turned at almost exactly the same time.

Honestly, though, it’s just a plot device to show how Carol has changed and to insert conflict into the group when they are already under a tremendous amount of stress. How many able-bodied adults are left at the prison who aren’t in quarantine? Rick, Carol, Maggie, and Beth are the only ones I know of off the top of my head. And, based on the preview for next week, it looks like Rick and Carol will be going out in search of medical supplies.

Hershel said that Karen and David were “killed in cold blood”,

Unless Hershel actually witnessed the "killing", which is unlikely, his statement is based on speculation only.......

At that time, there were other members of the prison who were starting to exhibit symptoms of the "New Flu" so why would Carol just arbitrarily kill Karen and David?

And since they were both dragged from the same cell block, assuming they were both still alive, it would be an extreme feat for Carol to kill one of the two without the other attempting to come to the rescue and put up a struggle.........

And as a side note, don't forget, Carol suffered the disappearance of her own daughter Sophia, only to see her zombie-killed at Hershel's farm when the the barn doors were opened........

If they had already died and turned into Walkers, then there would be no problem. All she would have had to do is say so.

After two years of zombie killing, it's become so common place that just saying " I killed them" is sufficient without any further explanation.............

Here's an example: I destroyed a nest of wasps yesterday.........Do I need to go into detail as to why I destroyed it?

In episode 2 “Infected” the only ones who had exhibited flu symptoms were Patrick, Karen, David, and the pigs/boar. Carol killed Karen and David and burned their bodies hoping that she could contain the sickness. But, her plan didn’t work as we saw in last night’s episode when others started showing symptoms, too.

I think Carol doesn’t want a repeat of what happened to Sophia, so that’s why she’s been teaching the kids how to use knives, etc.

Well, killing people is still different from killing Walkers. And it seemed pretty clear that Carol and Rick were both talking about Karen and David — not Walker Karen and Walker David. If she had killed Walker Karen and Walker David then nobody would really care all that much.

the only ones who had exhibited flu symptoms were Patrick, Karen, David,

...that we saw. Don't forget, what we see in the foreground doesn't mean something isn't goin on in the background..........

Now, you can believe that Carol killed/murdered Karen and David prior to their turning and your only evidence is Hershel making the claim, but I prefer not to.

"I watched it again. Now I think it’s not her. Clothes look different. Crazy Clara was wearing a dark jacket that looked like it probably belonged to her husband. And the length of the dress is different."

I think you're right. That's not to say Clara might not show up again, though!

"At this point, it’s unclear. But here’s why I think Carol killed them when they were still alive:"

That's all true. Also, last night on TD, Gayle Ann Hurd, the producer, called Carol a murderer.

I think she will, and I hope it isn’t cause for regret on Rick’s part.

I agree.

I think Rick would hesitate a little too long before he killed her. Maybe not, though.
