I am a college educator and find that incoming freshmen almost totally lacking basic math skills, read and write poorly and are utterly devoid of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I place blame squarely on the educational establishment and teachers unions. Students are not challenged to learn and are being fed politically correct pap and feel good self esteem rather than being taught the skills they need to survive in a globally competitive world.

Public schools are child abuse.

I agree with everything you said, but I also blame the fact that kids don’t read anymore. I hear them say, “I don’t read”, as though it’s something to be proud of. How can anyone have language skills when they never see the language being used correctly?

The parents shoulder that blame, IMO. My parents read to me all the time....love of reading needs to be ingrained in a child.

I could have written the exact same paragraph. Public schools seem to be a simple babysitting service rather than an education.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
