In 1920, Detroit became the 4th most populous city in America.
In 1940, Detroit was 90% white.
In 1950, there were 1,545,000 whites in Detroit (but LA just passed them for #4 by population). Detroit was a boomtown in the post-war economy.
In 1962, Detroit's final Republican mayor left office.
By 1967, there were 1,100,000 whites in Detroit (most of the losses were the happy union retirees leaving for the suburbs after 2 decades in the auto factories).

Then the Race Riots took place.

By 2000, Detroit was 90% black, even though their population grew by an average of less than 1% for the previous 30 years
Today there are fewer than 60,000 whites in Detroit.

Darn those racist Republican whites for abandoning Detroit!! THEY are to blame for the problems!!
