I like Lone Ranger too much to see this one. I’ve grown really weary of the “let’s take an old property and make it WHACKY” thing Hollywood is into these days. I’m OK with remakes and such, that’s been the stuff of Hollywood for a long time, but I get bored with them feeling the need to make fun of the material, and when I’m a fan of the original it’s kind of insulting.

Could not agree more. Hollywood seems to exist for no other reason than to destroy old TV programs that I used to enjoy.

Similar to the wholesale stupidity of the Green Hornet movie.

I absolutely agree!

I would think Native Americans have a lot to find offensive in Depp’s portrayal of Tonto.

Tony Hendra was a National Lampoon writer. He did several Grimm-type fairy tale parodies as well as lots of other cynical and sarcastic essays. He published a bunch of them in “The Book of Bad Virtues”, which was itself titled as a parody of William Bennett’s ‘Book of Virtues’.

I think my favorite story, though a bit apocryphal, was of the life and times of the Singing Nun, a one hit wonder in the 1960s, with her song ‘Dominique’, who after she arrived in the US went bonkers and stayed that way. She eventually insulted the Pope to his face, dated Hell’s Angels founder Sonny Barger, became a “leather nun” in San Francisco, and generally went completely nuts.

Jay Silverheels was at least an actual Indian (from Canada, I just learned) who always played it straight.

He died in 1980. Was cremated and had his ashes scattered over the Six Nations Reservation.

I liked the Green Hornet movie. Go figure.

Both the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet were created by a man named George W. Trendle. The Green Hornet, a.k.a. Britt Reid, is a descendant of the Lone Ranger, a.k.a., John Reid. Trust me. I know about this.

Sadly, we have met quite a few nuns who were nuts. A few of them were even relatives. It led my mom to develop this theory that a lifetime of celibacy has very detrimental effects upon the female brain.

Tonto is Spanish for ‘fool’, if I recall correctly. I guess Depp is fulfilling the role.

You know what my biggest question about the movie is? Who the hell is Armie Hammer. Then I found out that is Father is CEO of the Armand Hammer Foundation and I figured out how he gets work.

Didn’t know that about the Sister. Just looked her up on Wikipedia and the story there isn’t quite so sordid but I’ll take your word for it. Those Belgians can be a little unstable. I remember seeing her sing on the Ed Sullivan Show and if anyone could be cute and adorable in a full habit she was.

***I wonder if Klinton Spilsbury has a cameo?

It seems he never worked again.***

Well I would not want to either if the movie poster made him, holding a silver bullet, look more like he was holding a tube of lipstick.

***you know exactly who he is when he speaks.***

Same with Clayton Moore. His voice is one of a kind! I heard the TV in another room, and recognized his voice!

Went to see, and it was HIM without his mask! It was THE SON OF MONTE CRISTO.

He was also in the cliff hanger series THE PERILS OF NYOKA. No mask.
