I used to go drinking with my AA buddies. What worked was making the decision to quit and sticking with it.

Even though AA is probably the most effective method, it only has about a 15% long-term rate. You are one of the exceptions who doesn't need a support system. I'm a borderline introvert and also do such things "solo". Notice how I'm talking around having gone to AA for the "Mental health gun grabbing snoops"? Never been diagnosed as an alky - decided it would be best to no drink any more almost 25 years ago. Besides, not all in AA are alcoholics (or even druggies in case you snoops are interested), some use it as a ready-made group of "friends" that can also be used as support for other issues.
