The teenage daughter of a woman who secretly left her family 11 years ago says she's angry and doesn't want to have a relationship with her.
Morgan Heist said Thursday that she's still trying to sort out why Brenda Heist would have decided to abandon her and her brother in Pennsylvania in 2002 and hitchhike with strangers to Florida.
Morgan Heist is now a 19-year-old freshman at a community college outside Philadelphia. She says she thinks about how she's spent the last decade mourning a woman who was alive.
Heist’s ex-husband meanwhile has said he is angry but working on forgiveness. He was once considered a suspect in her disappearance.
'There were families who would not let our children play with theirs because of me,' says Lee Heist Senior.
Brenda Heist was reported missing by her husband on February 8, 2002. The then 42-year-old was last been seen that morning dropping off her two children at school in Lititz, Pennsylvania. Her car was found a few days later with no apparent sign of a struggle.
Then on Friday evening she walked into Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Key Largo, Florida and announced who she was.
After arriving in the Sunshine State, she had lived as a homeless person in the Key West area, sleeping under bridges and tents and eating food thrown out by fast food restaurants, police said.
In all the years she was missing she never used a bank card or ID, even when she made some money cleaning boats.

Def looks like a heavy drug user to me. If she would open her mouth I can probably tell you what her drug of choice is and how hard she was hitting it. Teeth and hair don’t lie.

I feel sorry for all of them. You know the dad was a suspect even without a body. The daughter grew up without a mother and wondering if her father killed her. The mom is psychotic or addicted or both. At least she didn’t kill her daughter a la Susan Smith, she left. I hope they can come to terms with this.

You and I can relate to exactly what this daughter is facing. Even more sadly, daughter and mom are racing the clock and from what we know from the article their clock is almost certainly running faster than it should.
Just out of curiosity, why is there a need to include the fact that she is “unable to grow facial hair” in her Identifying Characteristics on the Missing poster?
I would think becuase it's a unique identiifying feature that would make her stand out. If I had a loved one missing I'd want the description to include any and all features that might help identify the person.

That’s a fairly unusual physical description and might have helped ID her had anyone in KW known about the missing PA woman and noticed the one in FL. No eye lashes, no eye brows might just stand out.

One look at her eyes tells the tale: Fetal alcohol syndrome.
The wide set eyes are a dead giveaway to the syndrome.
If this woman was in her right mind, she would not have lived under bridges and fed herself by dumpster diving.
Her kids may be really hating her right now, but they should know what that syndrome does to folks. And with the grace of God, forgiveness can come into their hearts and they can help this conflicted woman.

The girl is deranged, but it might just be her momma’s fault.

As an aside, not everyone knows that one of our greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln, suffered much of his life from what is now thought to have been debilitating depression.
