We have a female setter-mix whose mission in life is to keep clean the ears of her dog brother and cat sister. When we hear a “wah, wah, wah,” from the cat we know Aubrey’s at it again. The cat puts up with it for a while, and then walks off.

Dan Ackroyd notwithstanding, where did we get this notion that dogs and cats don't get along? When the new kitten here mysteriously arrived over the fence, the dogs, who would have instantly killed a squirrel, barked and barked but left the kitten unharmed. One of the dogs seemed smitten with the kitten, sniffing while wagging his tail. As the kitten grew larger he play-stalked and play-attacked the dogs, who put up with a hell of a lot of provocation without responding. The cat's usual response to dog attention was to purr like mad, and try to take a nap on top of any dog that would permit it.

Some "natural enemies."
