Posted on 04/10/2013 7:56:54 AM PDT by Bon of Babble
The Union Pacific railroad engineer brought his train to a screeching halt as the locomotive came roaring toward the 10-month old terrier mix Banjo. Authorities tracked down the 78-year-old owner who told agents his family 'didn't want the dog' and he 'didn't know what to do with him.'

Wonder if he’s a former or current PETA member.
Very pleased this had a happy ending, but damn... there are some evil “people” out there.
Should have dropped him off at an abortion clinic. They’d kill him in a second . . . you know . . . snip his spine
So they tied him to the tracks in hopes he'd be killed. Good God...
? To do so he could not have been moving at more than 5 MPH.
"Screeching halt" and "roaring" indeed.
Hard to think of a more high profile way of trying to get rid of your dog than tying it to the railroad tracks, a way in which you could cause numerous deaths and a lot of damage.
And then you ADMIT it when the authorities come calling?
Wow. Stupid AND evil.
Too bad there isn't some network where you could search for better solutions than strapping the dog to the train tracks, was it Snidely Whiplash?
Exactly how much did that bit of complete stupidity cost the RR and surrounding community?
When trains at speed have to stop it involves major repair expense.
I don’t think I would have stopped for a dog. A person yes.
‘didn’t want the dog’ and he ‘didn’t know what to do with him.’
So the only thing this AHOLE could think of to do was this? I call BS.
I’m not a big dog fan (see tagline), but this just goes beyond the pale...the language required to adequately describe this ‘person’ would get me banned post-haste. Craig’s List is free, for pity’s sake...or perhaps a ‘no-kill’ shelter? There is so much evil running loose in this country now we are going to have to come up with another word to replace ‘evil’, since it is getting watered down by repetition...
I just can’t wrap my mind around humanity anymore...
So how many other animals has this sicko tortured and killed that we dont know about? Chances are this is not the first time, just the first time he’s been caught.
In this case; you have that backwards...
Psychotic people who do these kinds of things to innocent animals are about one step away from doing them to humans too if they haven’t already crossed that line long ago.
You are humanity.
What a cute little one Banjo is. Someone will want him & love him.
We murder children by the millions. People yawn. So what does having or not having any children have to do with this? People’s attitude toward children is totally utilitarian: if I want the kid, it’s sweet and innocent. If I don’t want the kid, I can suck his brains out and no one can tell me any different.
Sorry, but I find it hard to listen to MSMers who get all worked up over the poor little dog but who can’t be bothered about the Molech industry.
Good to know.
Ditto. Some days; I marvel at the fact that G-d Almighty hasn't pulled the plug on this country yet...
So glad the pup was rescued...so sad that his owner decided to kill him instead of offer him to a new owner.
Killing unborn babies, helping elderly to commit suicide, applauding unhealthy sexual lifestyles as “normal,” redefining marriage to meet modern convenience, worshipping false gods, and the lack of morals, humanity, obedience to God: we are just like folks were in the days of Noah. God already sent us a Savior so those who have ears to hear and eyes to see if they have a willing heart will hear/see and obey. Others will continue to be deaf, blind and dumb/numb to His call. There is a lot of work for us Christians to do to work against these evils until Jesus comes again...
After reading that nonsense I was waiting on “the engineer was able to swerve just before hitting the pup”.
Where do they get these kind of dumb asses and do they even know just how dumb they sound when they write this kind of crap.
“Where do they get these kind of dumb asses and do they even know just how dumb they sound when they write this kind of crap.”
I remember someone posting this to another thread some time ago:
Those who can, do.
Those who can’t, teach.
Those who can’t teach, become journalists.
The lord works in mysterious ways. In this case, using man’s best friend, he has revealed a demon that walks among us. The train engineer was weighed and measured and found not wanting. what happens to the demon is now up to the California judicial system.
Not only that but there are trains scheduled behind that train. An unexpected stop backs those up. But to tie that dog to the tracks because he didn’t know what to do with it????? Has to be a PETA member.
False dichotomy. It is possible to care about both dogs and unborn children at the same time.
How about the Obama death panel for the old man?
He may already have...
Stories like this make me lose faith in humanity.
I have two rescue dogs that I hug every morning before I leave for work. One was found in a gutter, the other was given to me because he was unwanted.
Those who do this kind of thing are feeling and uncaring. They would do the same to a human, I think.
Banjo is assured of adoption. For thousands of shelter animals the outlook is not so bright. If you can, visit a shelter, save a life and leave with your new best friend.
Spokesman John Welsh said he would not face animal cruelty charges as he appeared to be "confused or senile and didn't fully understand what he had done."
Wonder how many “Creative Writing” classes this moron has been in.
I guess no one ever told him creative writing is only useful in reporting when it’s believable.
may already have has...
He has certainly lifted the plug enough so that much of the country is swirling down the drain...hard to keep my balance anymore. :-)
It has been my experience that most dogs are better people than people are.
At the very least, dogs are more trustworthy.
“he appeared to be “confused or senile and didn’t fully understand what he had done.”
Sounds just like SloJo Biden...
I'll bet one of the sociopathic grandkids did it and the old man is covering for him...
It’s all part of the same continuum, and If you.don’t see that, I pity you
What did that little guy do to deserve being tied to a railroad track to be run over by a train?
I'm glad this one was saved, but the evil still roams free. God, please save us.
how does one just stop a train?
Words escape me. If you don’t want the dog, give it to a shelter.
How can anyone hurt a dog or a cat? I don’t want to know or understand.
You should donate him to a 'NO-Kill Shelter', you dumbass..
The article says the engineer saw the man put something on the tracks - stopped the train & saw it was a little dog.
Engineers are trained to know how to stop their trains.
Some one tie that bass turd to the same tracks. Damn it I hate when people abuse dogs!
“Engineers are trained to know how to stop their trains.”
Yes, but trains are VERY heavy, and have some rather interesting challenges with traction thanks to their use of steel wheels on steel rail. Even at low speeds it takes quite a bit of distance to bring a train to a stop.
I agree with whoever posted previously that the train was probably not moving very fast. It also sounds like someone other than the engineer saw the dog first and alerted the engineer.
