The report I heard on KFI sounded good.

The police chief Charlie Beck promised a new truck.

If the city or a third party had given them a truck it would be taxable gift. (No taxes with this plan.)

The city of LA can settle law suits less than $50,000 with just a few signatures and doesn’t need a city city council hearing. (Fast)

To keep the settlement under $50,000 the lawyer waived his fees. He knows he will get paid in full when they get their personal injury settlement.

The only agreed to litigation involving property damages. Personal injury is not covered and will be settled latter.

I found a link at KFI radio but it wasn’t working when I tried it. Too much traffic maybe.

Other details that caused problems. The truck was not paid for and they still owe on it. The police still have the truck as part of the internal investigation into the shooting. I forget how their insurance played in to thed picture.
