Yeah, there are a few other decent films based on his work.

Yeah. Huge fan. But I’m from Russia. He is Polish but was translated to Russian and was hugely popular back then. The book is incredible, the movies based on it are trash. Thanks for the thread. Made me wanna re-read it.

Prolly not, he had nothing but contempt for American mainstream SF, except for Philip K. Dick, and one other author, I forget who, the American authors and publishers paid him back.

The movie was a bit better than the critics suggested but not blockbuster quality. I have no clue about his books.

I am a huge Lem fan and have read all his books. They are all good, but Solaris is the best. I also highly, highly recommend the movie - the Russian one, not the American re-make.
Just log onto Amazon or Alibris and order all his books.

The Cyberiad is one of my favorites.

I’ve bought it and read it at least three times, and always end up giving it away so someone else can enjoy it.

I may have to search for it again, now that you’ve gotten me thinking about it!

Sorry to go off topic, but while the thread is attracting people open to SF written by guys with goofy names, I’d like to throw in a plug for Cordwainer Smith. This guy was one of the most unique voices in the genre and he is just not read enough. You can try a story for free on Baen’s site:

It’s been years since I read “Fiasco” but I recommend it

I have read and enjoyed the following by Lem:

Solaris
Memoirs Found in a Bathtub
The Invincible
The Chain of Chance
The Investigation
The Cyberiad
Memoirs of a Space Traveller

Even his humor makes you think.

Yeah, I like Stanislaw Lem.

I like his lighter story collections (The Star Diaries, The Cyberiad, Tales of Pirx the Pilot). Solaris bored me - always felt like something must have been lost in the translation.

All I have is star diaries. The Solaris movies are pretty grinding and arty but good if you are in the mood for them. I like the star diaries.

The problem I have is the translation, it might be poetry in polish but it isn’t Jack Vance in english. Not Lem’s fault.

Obligatory weird sci-fi/fantasy author names: Alfred Elton van Vogt, Fritz Leiber, Lyon Sprague DeCamp.
