The official NFL policy is no city with temps below 50 degrees unless they have a dome. Not sure how NJ got selected.

There are basically two reason why NY got selected:

1. After 9/11, many people wanted to give NY a SB..but the schedule was set for several years already.

2.The league, if possible, likes to give new stadiums, if in warm weather and/or domed, a SB, soon after they open. About the time that NY would have been eligible for SB consideration, about 2008, the Jets and the Giants had announced plans for a new joint stadium, now MetLife stadium, so it was delayed after it opened.

Remember, the SB is not for the enjoyment of the fans who buy tickets...most don't get a chance..it's for the league, the big hitters, the media, and the sponsors, and since NY is the media capital of the world, these folks like having it there, even if it's freezing outside. They'll all be in the luxury boxes, nice and warm.

There is already a "war" of sorts brewing between NY and NJ over the SB..Look, the stadium is in NJ. BOTH teams have their offices and training complexes in NJ, yet both teams are NY named. Most all the BIG SB week parties and events are going to be held in NYC..Christie is said to be pissed at this..hey, maybe they can have a car-stripping event in Newark..

Not sure how NJ got selected.

They promised to cover the stadium with one of Chris Christie's suitcoats.
