Huh - I haven’t heard that... I don’t see why cooking them would matter, but like I said, my dogs seem immune to them. I also figure dogs eat birds (and anything else) in the wild, so your point makes sense!

We lost our previous dog at age 5 to lymphoma. With all the talk of tainted dog food, ingredients from China, etc, we decided to look into raw on the chance that she might have eaten some tainted or carcinogenic food. The breeder from whom we got our dog often fed chicken necks to her dogs to keep their teeth clean. There are books about how to go about doing it. Basically, the idea is to provide for the dog the type of diet he'd have in the wild. It is natural for dogs to eat raw meat and bones. They get a little organ meat and some veggies as well, but no grains. Most kibble-type foods are predominantly grain.

The store where we were getting the chicken necks is a store that only sells raw meat and bones for dogs. We also get little containers of organ meat and a slop of greens. You can also get plastic containers of raw meat with bones ground up in it, But, then you would lose the teeth cleaning aspect of the bones. My dog's teeth are white, and he does not have "dog-breath". The vet is constantly amazed at how good his teeth look.

We never give him any cooked bones like chicken, steak, etc.
