Diversity is just another word for Balkanization.
Well, comments about suicide rates and alcoholism aside, I have a problem with this article.
For one thing, the survey didn’t seem to actually ask people “are you happy?” I believe a poll that actually did that showed that put Nepal on top.
Also, the countries on this list aren’t “borderline socialist.” Having a large welfare state (in terms of services offered) isn’t the same thing as socialist—these countries have functioning mixed economies, with private industry, capital and labor markets, etc.
Also, all of these countries on the top have greatly scaled back their welfare states and liberalized their economies in the past thirty years. Ireland would not have been this high thirty years ago, when it was considerably more “socialist.”
For more information, google “Scandinavian welfare myth.”
More proof that Conservatives outnumber lIbeRaLs. If they outnumbered us, the US would be off the hopeychangey charts.
FRAUDULENT POLL!
North Korean is the Happiest country!
The Dear Leader has said so!
/s
“ve haf vays of makink you happy!”
The Gallup results are different because Gallup actually did a survey of 1000 people in each of the 148 countries they surveyed. They did not base the survey on a subjective interpretation of which factors (GDP, etc.) should make people happy.
Just imagine how depressing it must be to be sad in a place where everyone else is happy.
“Surveys like this usually have the following type of scoring:
minus 5 points for civilian access to guns
plus 5 points for easy access to abortion
plus 5 point for state-run medicine
plus 5 points for availability of assisted suicide “
What is your source on that?
Obvious racist poll. No African countries in the top 10.

Experience. I have seen surveys in the past with loaded questions.
The study methodology will be biased based on the survey designer's opinions about the factors cause happiness. My impression is that these studies are done by Leftist groups with grants. Sometimes there is an agenda, and sometimes there is bias.
According to the documentation for this particular survey, the following factors were included.
yeah, those Scandinavians are going to be deleriously happy when full-blown Sharia law kicks in!
It would be more believable if, instead of “happiest,” they had said “gayest.”
Actually their agenda seems to be "money leads to happiness"
