This makes me think that this future Intel CPU is going to come in a 'Slot1' configuration like the old Pentium ][ did.

Probably multiple chips hosting multiple cores on the same card. In that case, Intel will seek to control their cooling behavior and ship it in an integrated 'cassette' like unit as they did with the Pentium '2'.

The Pentium II design was AWFUL. That was just to keep AMD from making compatible socket chips, even though gave some BS tech reason for it.

I see this as locking people in to Intel chip sets etc., maybe even entire motherboards.

BTW, this does NOT mean the desktop market is going away. Businesses will use them for the foreseeable future. What it means is that the processor upgradable desktop market is going away, and entirely different matter.
