It is just politics. Elections come and go, sometimes they don’t go the way I hoped, but life goes on. The Sun keeps rising, the Earth keeps spinning and God has a plan.
I don’t pretend to know what that plan is, but I’m sure that everything that has happened in the last four years and everything that will happen in the next four years is part of it.
In four years there will be a new President. In the meantime the current President is already a lame duck facing a divided Congress with a hostile lower house.
I suspect the next two years (and probably the next four) will be characterized by gridlock, and frankly, gridlock may be just what the doctor ordered. After four more years of an underperforming economy and endless foreign wars, the nation might just be ready for some real hope and change.
As far as I’m concerned Romney and Obama might as well have been the same person. Six of one, a half dozen of the other.
Both of them promised more big government, a bigger police state, and more wars.
A pox upon both their houses.
But anyway, I’m digressing here. My point was that our fellow Americans, even those with whom we have profound disagreements, are not the enemy. It is the State that is the enemy, and if we do not wake up to that fact very soon it will devour us all.
Politics is important, and there is a time and a place for it. But we need to move past the election and look to the future. If conservatives want to win the next election, we need to win over hearts and minds. We aren’t going to do that by demonizing people merely because they happened to prefer the other guy.

I run into this all the time in my line of work. I do a lot of work in people’s homes, and often become quite friendly with them.
They can see I’m intelligent and knowledgeable, so the liberals immediately assume I am one too. Often go off on rants against Bush or conservatives. Doesn’t even cross their minds that I might not agree.
I never get into it with them, since I think that would be unprofessional. But I am amazed at the unthinking assumption that if a person is intelligent and well-read, then obviously he must be liberal.
I have not dismissed anything, I’m simply coming at it from a different perspective.
I believe God is in control and He has a plan. I don’t quite understand what He’s up to, but I trust Him. That allows me to move past all the negative emotions this election has wrought and get on with life.
That doesn’t mean we stop fighting. We’re in a war for the heart and soul of the nation, and we won’t win it by isolating ourselves from the other side.
But you HAVE dismissed everything, and you HAVE stopped fighting, and you ARE trying to justify your actions by bringing God into this as a crutch. Your different perspective has a name: naivete.
Yes, God is in control, but NO we are not released. When Paul was shipwrecked, was God in control? Yes. Did Paul pray? Yes. But did Paul swim like heck too? Yes. You have stopped swimming.

That is a correct judgement of your words. If that conflicts with the deeper feelings of your heart, I suggest you work on your wording.
I don't demonize people because they prefer the other GUY. I demonize them because they prefer the other WAY.
We're about to see our national debt surpass $20 trillion, not counting perhaps another $100 trillion in unfunded "entitlements". This money will be paid back by our grandchildren and their children. They will wonder how it was possible that their future was destroyed by people they never met.
In all likelihood, the school textbooks will blame capitalism and greed. Our grandchildren will wonder why there is no bread while there will be nobody with an incentive to create bread. It took the Russians over seventy years to recognize that their system didn't work. I don't think they have a decent replacement for it yet.
I am stunned at the number and intensity of responses on this thread.
It speaks volumes as to how divided the American people have become. I remember the Vietnam war era from my schoolage years and it was never THIS acrimonious between family members.
I’m now reminded of one of Lincoln’s most famous quotes, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
A lot of us would do well to ponder those words this Thanksgiving.
