I read it in High School in the early 1980s, but all of my required reading in ROTC and service schools revolved around Vietnam-Era literature (Chickenhawk, The 13th Valley, A Rumor of War, Fields of Fire, etc.). Much of it was amazing stuff, some was self-serving trash.

My primary reason for reading Heinlein’s SST was a recommendation to me by Adm. Byrd about 3 years earlier that Heinlein was an outstanding SciFi author. Since SST had come out the year before I read it and Heinlein came with high praise, I bought a paperback copy and devoured it.
